Welcome to Tin Can Learners!

Tin Can Learners was a project-based, community-oriented, remote after-school program intent on spreading joyful learning in the days of online school. Started by five undergraduates who were frustrated with online learning themselves, Tin Can Learners aimed to take the load off of parents and offer engaging and energizing after-school classes that are full of connection during fall of 2020.

Our Mission

  • Provide a supportive activity-based environment that fosters community and creativity.

  • Offer additional structure to the wide-open days of online school.

  • Facilitate self-motivated and self-driven learning and playing habits.

  • Prioritize financial accessibility by providing a robust tuition assistance program.

Tin Can’s opt-in clubs, Friday Funs, and asynchronist challenges give students as young as nine agency over their play. We offered 5-10 hours of games, trivia, friendly competition, and crafting each week

Tin Can Learners taught material that is not part of the standard K-12 curriculum. Our classes were project-based (and we don’t assign homework!). Students completed a session having acquired a new skill, made something that they are proud of, and feeling more connected amidst the world of online learning.
